Kristin Phillips-Court is the Vilas Associate Professor of Italian and Art History at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She is the author of The Perfect Genre: Drama and Painting in Renaissance Italy, which was awarded the MLA Scaglione Prize for Italian Studies; and Vasari’s Literary Art, which focuses on how Vasari negotiated the legacies of Dante, Petrarch, and Boccaccio. Professor Phillips-Court has begun working on a new monograph on Machiavelli entitled “Machiavelli’s Tragic Geography.” This interdisciplinary study explores how Machiavelli’s diverse representations of the Italian terrain throughout his writings reflect and mobilize his humanistic thinking.  She teaches a wide variety of courses on Italian literary and artistic culture for programs in Literature, Art History, Theater, Early Modern Studies, Liberal Studies (UW’s Humanities program), International Studies, and Political Science.
