The exam consists of two passages in Italian to translate into English. One passage consists of expository prose; the other is a narrative prose text.

Italian for Reading
This course is intended for students who either need a reading knowledge of French for research purposes or are preparing for Italian reading examinations and who have had no (or minimal) prior study of Italian.
Note:this course does not satisfy the language requirement

The Graduate School administers reading courses in French, German, Italian and Spanish for GSAS doctoral students and funds the tuition for these courses in order to assist students in satisfying degree requirements or pursuing dissertation research.
