Her research interests focus on Dante Alighieri, the question of allegory and exegesis in the Middle Ages, the Biblical influences on literary texts, and Giovanni Boccaccio. They also include a number of aspects in the Renaissance, in particular Michelangelo, Tasso, and the relation of literary and visual arts. Her interest in theories of Second Language Acquisition encompasses intercultural competence, the relationship between technology and language learning, and implicit vs. explicit learning.

Giulia holds a BA (Laurea) in English Literature from the University of Rome La Sapienza, with a specialization in Comparative Literature and a minor in German literature and language. After moving to the United States, she obtained an M.A. in Italian Studies from the University of Notre Dame, Indiana. In 2015 she completed her Ph.D in Italian Studies at Yale, with a dissertation on “The Question of Prophecy in Dante’s Commedia.” Giulia has published an article on Tasso and Michelangelo (“«Facitor de l’imagini»: Lo spettacolo della creazione in Michelangelo e Tasso”), with two more articles forthcoming (“Dreams of Prophets, Dreams of Poets” which focuses on Purgatorio 28, and “La poiesis della Terra Australis”, which deals with the concept of Terra Australis in the Middle Ages). In addition to her duties at Yale, Giulia joined the faculty at Fairfield University in 2015, where she is an adjunct instructor of Italian.
