Class of 2023 - Congratulations

May 16, 2023

Sarah Atkinson holds a PhD in Italian Studies from Yale University. Her dissertation, “The Making of Pasolini’s Poetic Cinema,” traces how the poet-novelist-painter-director imports techniques from literature and the visual arts to film. Her research focuses on modern and contemporary Italian culture; intersections of literature, film, and painting; translation studies; adaptation theory; women artists and the history of feminism; and philosophies of narration. Sarah is working on a new project entitled “Cities of Women,” which is grounded in notions of shared public space and the commons. This study compiles an alternative intellectual and civic genealogy to explore how women invent new rhetorical patterns of authority through urban spaces. In August 2023, she will join the faculty of Villanova University as a Postdoctoral Fellow in Italian Studies.
