Jane Tylus inducted into the Accademia dei lincei in Rome

Chair, Department of Italian Studies
November 6, 2024

Today, Jane Tylus will be inducted into the Accademia dei lincei in Rome, one of the oldest and most prestigious scholarly institutions in Europe.  The academy, established in 1603, takes its name from the lynx, an animal known for the sharp vision needed for scientific observation. Galileo was the most illustrious of its original members.   After a period of dormancy, the organization was revived in the Ottocento, broadening its focus to include literary concerns. Since 1992, the Accademia has advised the Presidente della Repubblica on the conduct of scientific and cultural affairs.

Jane’s scholarship has earned her a position among the foreigners elected to this august body.  Let us raise a symbolic glass to toast Jane from afar for this splendid acknowledgement of all she’s done for the advancement of Italian literary studies here and abroad.

Congratulations Jane!!
