Rebecca West is a specialist of modern and contemporary Italian literature, culture, and film, with a secondary scholarly interest in Dante and in Italian American film and literature.  She is also a scholar who has worked extensively on feminism, especially Italian and French theory and practice, on women writers in the modern Italian context, and on representations of masculinity on screen in the American, Italian, and Italian American film traditions.
