Sergio De Iudicibus is a Ph.D student in the combined program of Italian Studies and Film & Media Studies, having earned an A.B. from Princeton University and an M.A. from USC. His dissertation, catalyzed by the perennial question “why is Italian film dubbed?”, will likely examine the scission of body and voice in Italian cultures, from Lucretius to Antonioni. Currently, however, he is interested in such techniques as “switching” or “coupling,” key processes in train infrastructures or, as he argues, in cinematic tango and BDSM. Sergio appreciates transhistorical methodologies, sound studies, German media theory, critical theory, and intellectual history. He spends his summers in Siena where he performs as a pianist for the Accademia Musicale Chigiana. You may find his other work on his website: iudicibus.com
