Daniel Turillo graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with an MA in Italian and a Master’s Certificate in Film and Media Studies in 2025, having previously earned Bachelor’s degrees in Italian, Political Science, and Economics from Pitt in 2023. His research examines questions of transnational cultural exchange in modern and contemporary Italian and Italian American media and society. His current projects include studies on form and aesthetics in Italian migrant and diaspora cinema, the politics of race in 1980s Italian post-apocalypse films, the representation of imperial space in Fascist-era newsreels set in Italian East Africa, and the circulation of Italian film in interwar America.
