Combined B.A./M.A. Program in Italian

Lecture Hall

Yale University Art Gallery Sculpture Hall

Yale allows students to complete simultaneously the B.A. and M.A. degrees in the same department in four years, provided the student meets certain requirements. In addition to all the regular B.A. requirements, the student must complete eight (8) graduate courses, to be distributed as follows:

  • At least five (5) graduate courses in the Italian department, numbered 6500 or above
  • Up to two (2) of these course requirements may be fulfilled by graduate courses in other languages and literatures, linguistics, history of art, philosophy, or religious studies that are related to the student’s field of study and approved by the director of undergraduate studies.
  • One (1) of these course requirements may be fulfilled by completing a Master’s Thesis. Students who opt to do so are encouraged to pursue a year-long project in lieu of the senior essay required of standard majors.

Official Yale College program information is available online at the Yale College Programs of Study site.
