Maria Truglio (Yale 2001) is Professor of Italian and Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at The Pennsylvania State University. She is the author of Beyond the Family Romance: The Legend of Pascoli (Toronto UP, 2007), Italian Children’s Literature and National Identity: Childhood, Melancholy, Modernity (Routledge, 2018), and the chapter on “Children’s Literature in a Globalizing Italy” in the Oxford Handbook of Italian Literature (2025). She currently focuses on the theme of immigration in Italian Children’s Literature. Essays on this topic appear in Children’s Literature Association Quarterly, Romanic Review, and The Lion and the Unicorn. Her undergraduate courses include Italian Women Writers, Children’s Literature, Italian American Culture, Comedy, and Patronage. She has recently been interviewed for podcasts on Pinocchio and on Pascoli.
